About

This professional development program for K‑12 educators will feature A Conversation on Constitutional Issues in an Unusual Year with leading constitutional scholars followed by workshops from iCivics, the National Constitution Center, and the Bill of Rights Institute.

As we return to school this fall in a period of unprecedented upheaval it’s all the more important that you and other educators have the knowledge and tools needed to engage students in civic education. This multipart professional development program exclusive to educators will feature A Conversation on Constitutional Issues in an Unusual Year with constitutional scholars Kannon K. Shanmugam of Paul, Weiss LLP, Ilya Shapiro of the Cato Institute, and Elizabeth B. Wydra of the Constitutional Accountability Center. Key topics to be covered include the COVID-19 pandemic, federalism, and individual rights; elections and voting; executive orders and the limits of presidential power; and the Supreme Court and judicial nominations.

Three 15‐minute workshops will follow the moderated conversation. The nation’s leading organizations in civic education—iCivics, National Constitution Center, and Bill of Rights Institute—will host the workshops and talk about the latest offerings that they have to support classroom education this year. Each workshop will highlight tools and resources to help you be more effective in teaching civic education.

The program will conclude with a Q&A with our opening panel of constitutional scholars who will address your biggest questions and concerns on constitutional issues.
